Exploring the Journey of Fine Art Oil Painting with Julie Brayton

Painting Greens As A Colorist

Hopefully, you have an interest and desire to see the world as Monet did. That is what this blog is about. Monet was interested in capturing the moment as he saw it. Seeing how the atmosphere affected the color of things.

This moves the artist away from what is known as “local color”, named color of objects, and more into seeing the actual color of an object based on the light happening at the time.

These observations translate into a more vibrant interesting rendition of the scene or object you are painting. Greens can be tricky for many. But if you are seeing them through the eye of a colorist you can decipher differences such as actual hue, temperature, value, and saturation.

Watch the video below to understand what Monet was looking for and how to see more colorful differences in green than just light and dark greens.
